Instagram BIO BASICS FOR INFLUENCING

Happy Friday!! I don’t know about you guys but getting to Friday this week was rough. I was able to get the Covid19 vaccine Monday and definitely experienced the side effects Tuesday. We had severe weather Wednesday and I was just over it by Thursday.

Moving on to better things. I started a Tuesday @2pm series on my Instagram. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve decided to pick a topic related to influencing and chat live with my Instagram audience. I made the decision not to save it for 2 reasons:

  1. I wanted the people that joined live to get a Q&A session and

  2. I wanted to create another medium to recap what I discussed

Why? Someone asked me how I grew my Instagram platform when it was stagnant and my response was to move people from one platform to another. I encourage my Youtube audience to follow me on Instagram. I encouraged my blog viewers to follow me on Instagram. Now that I’m in a great position, it’s now time for me to send my Instagram audience to my blog and Youtube channel. So here we are.

Last week’s IG live session discussed the basics your bio should have on your Instagram page should you decide to start an Influencing career. These basics cover any niche and are essential to establish yourself as a brand. Take what you need and let me know which ones you may have been missing:

  1. Thoughtful/Cohesive username

When my Instagram page was just for play play, I used my given name. However, when I decided I wanted to start my Influencing career, I knew I wanted to change. I still work in corporate America and should I decide to change companies, I didn’t want my social platforms searchable in Google. I went with livin_fearless because it tells a story.

Ensure that you’re username is cohesive and available on other platforms. Whether you decide to have a blog or YouTube channel, my advice would be to reserve those usernames just in case you decide to add them later.

  2. Location

You’ve heard realtors say the most important aspect of house hunting is location, location, location! The same is true for Influencing. Your location should be in your bio and VISIBLE in your bio. Why you ask? There are some brands that are looking for influencers in a certain area/state. They have systems that can pull that data and list all those influencers in that area. So no location equates to not be on the list for potential collaborations. I also personally like to follow my bloggers in my city.

  3. Email

I learned a LONG time ago, business is not to be negotiated in the DM’s. It can get clogged and isn’t professional when you’re talking about money and contracts. It’s normal for a brand to slide in the DM’s for a collaboration and it’s normal and okay to say “this sounds like a great concept, can you email me the collaboration and compensation details. The link is in my bio”. It gives the opportunity to visibility see your email as well as via the ‘email’ button.

  4. Upgrade your Account

How do you get that ‘email’ button? What about insights that brands look for when negotiating contracts? Simply by upgrading your account from a personal to a business account. It should be one of the first steps done when deciding to start your Influencing career. You’re able to get insights on your content, when you’re followers are most engaged (this helps to determine what time you should post), and some great demographics on you’re audience.

  5. Links to Other Platforms

Have a YouTube channel and want to send people that way? Link it

Have a blog and want to send people that way? Link it

Have a LIKETOKNOW.it account but not at 10k for swipe ups? Link it

Linking several other links is a great way to send people to your other platforms in a easy to use way. I personally use linktree but there are several other platforms that allow you to link other relevant websites.

  6. Profile Picture

This should be self explanatory but just in case it’s not, let me make it clear…. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME IG PROFILE PICTURE ALL YEAR!! Change it up sis! I personally change mine every quarter (it’s the Accounting degree in me!).

What are you missing on your profile? Add it now sis!!
